Screening Process
Pre-Screening Process
After you submit your proposal online and it is approved by our staff, you will receive an email assigning you to a pre-screening team of two to five members of the Capital Angels. We will ask you to contact your pre-screening team directly to schedule a meeting with them. Based on their review of your company, they may (1) recommend that you present at our monthly screening sessions, (2) determine that you are not likely to succeed in your proposal to Capital Angels, or (3) refer you to one of our affiliated incubators or mentors as a way to better prepare you to be eligible for our further consideration. During the pre-screening process we will also provide you with guidance on your presentation. Your mission is to captivate the attention of your pre-screening team looking to find one or more "champions" who will communicate why you may be an excellent candidate for CA members further consideration.
Screening Sessions
We hold screening sessions in Canberra every month. Each screening session is attended by Capital Angels members. You will have 5 minutes to make a presentation followed by 5 minutes of Q&A. We generally hold the Q&A after you're finished making your presentation. Click on Presentation Guidelines on this page's left navigation bar for more information. Your primary mission is to generate sufficient interest among the CA members in attendance to get invited for follow-up meetings.
Due Diligence Process and Dinner Presentations
If your screening presentations generate sufficient interest, CA members will self select to lead your due diligence process. During the due diligence process CA members will analyse your investment opportunity in great detail. If you attract especially high interest among those involved in the due diligence process, they will invite you to present to the entire CA membership at a one dinner meetings which are held every six weeks. Your mission during your presentation at a dinner meeting is to attract individual Capital Angels to start considering how much they are willing to invest in your company.
Term Sheet Negotiation & Investment
Once sufficient CA members and other investors have identified the amounts they desire to invest in your opportunity, a CA member negotiates the term sheet with you. CA members' terms of investment follow "standard" terms for financings developed over the years by VCs and other sophisticated investors. These terms explain what is contemplated and what is prohibited (most of the time many of those events never surface). Please read the sections on Valuations and Term Sheet accessible from this page's left navigation bar.
Each member of the CA invests individually as the CA is not a fund. However, all CA members who invest in a deal follow the identical term sheet.
